We will be using Read Write Inc to improve our skills in phonics - this will support our skills in both reading and writing.


We will be exploring texts based on Weather such as Flood, Cloudy with a chance of meatballs and Meerkat Mail.


Within our writing we will be learning to add spaces between words, punctuating sentences using full stops and capital letters and joining words and clauses using 'and'. 

We will also use capital letters for people, places and days of the week and the personal pronoun 'I'.

Extreme Weather

We will:

  • Name and locate the world’s continents and oceans. 
  • identify seasonal and daily weather patterns in the United Kingdom and the location of hot and cold areas of the world in relation to the Equator and the North and South Poles. 
  • Devise a simple map; and use and construct basic symbols in a key.
  • investigate how the seasons are portrayed in art and create our own versions.

We will be looking closely at how the weather changes across the four seasons and how this affects humans, plants and animals.We will also be learning about how day length varies and studying the apparent movement of the sun during the day.We will look at contrasting global climates and how this affect plants and animals.

We will be exploring texts based on Inventions and Superheros such as Superworm, Cotton Wool Colin, Send for a Superhero and Charlie and the Chocolate factory.


Within our writing we will continue to develop our sentence writing ensuring we use capital letters, full stops and finger spaces consistently.We will also be using question marks and exclamation marks to punctuate our sentences.

We will use -ing, -ed, -er and -est where no change is needed in the spelling of the root words.
